In this photo, many 2 to8 inch cones are beginning to weather out of the source rock.  Looking closely,
you can see the cones are tilted with the rock slabs.  The cones must have formed before erosion  took
shale out from beneath the sandstone.  Further erosion will eventually release the cones from the sandstone.
